General History of Cheap City

WHAT IS CHEAP CITY?

Cheap City is a municipality located in the United States. Opinions differ on whether or not Cheap City is legally bound to the US and has at times operated as an independent state (see Cheap City’s Involvement in WWII and The Maple Syrup Affair). The exact coordinates of Cheap City has not been made available to the public but driving directions are available. Cheap City conducts an independent census in the calendar year following the Official US Census but full data is only made available to those who submit a formal request to the Bureau of Public Secrets. Since 1947 the population of Cheap City has been carefully kept at 420,069 through a carefully organized planning of births and deaths.

The city has a unique geographic position, with Treble Cove and the Bay of the Broke to the east leading to a large lake that mysteriously changes from salt to fresh water halfway through. North of the city limits are The Muddy Mountains which taper off into the Great Cheap Plains to the east. Southeast of the city is the Cheap City Swamp. Directly south of the city is a complex series of suburbs and small communities. No one is sure where the Southern Suburbs end. Opinions on the exact land area that Cheap City occupies differ.

The city is home to a number of loosely organized neighborhoods a la Greenwich Village or Froggy ‘Mo The Tracks. Famous examples include Lizardville, where registered libertarians are required to live - you can head there for a friendly game of cribbage - as well as Haunted District 42, and Candy Corner - where the city’s candy stores are concentrated.

The public reputation of Cheap City has grown considerably since 2018 when the city founded The Cheap City Cultural Ambassadors, a group of musicians tasked with traveling the world to educate audiences about the culture and history of Cheap City.
